Benvenuti! Welcome! I am so excited about this school year, it will definitely be one for the record books. I am using this Google Site as an information hub for everything you will need for my class. In all levels of Italian, we will be doing some innovative activities to help us read, speak, listen to, and write in Italian!

Digital Connections

Here are the digital platforms we will be using throughout the course.

GOOGLE CLASSROOM: A platform to send and receive information and assignments. Google Drive, Docs, Slides, and Sheets are parts of the system.
REMIND: A messaging service and is enabled (for those of you who are 13 and older) for two-way messaging for ease of communication (like texting).
EMAIL: Traditional service of sending information and documentation.
ZOOM: A virtual meeting / class, with secured, live video streams.
QUIZIZZ: An activity site where some work and some assessments will be done.
FLIPGRID: An activity site where students will create videos for assignments.
EDPUZZLE: An interactive activity site where students will complete work.
DUOLINGO: An interactive language site and app for practicing and expanding your use of the Italian language.

All about me

Buongiorno! I am Prof Focht and I absolutely LOVE teaching Italian at David Brearley. I have been teaching here since 1997, and have taught all levels of Italian, 7th grade through Italian 5 Honors. I have also taught K-4 Italian as well as Social Studies.

I come from an Italian background and studied Italian in high school and college. I attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA and in Bologna, Italy.

I have a daughter, Giuliana Lorenza, who is 10 years old and in 5th grade. We live in Woodbridge and enjoy all things Disney, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

I studied abroad in Bologna, Italy for my entire junior year of college; it was very difficult to leave! I go back as often as I can and enjoy taking students on trips to Italy every few years. If that is something you are interested in doing, start saving your money and come and reach out to me!
